Hi,
Please can someone advise when Child Maintenance would stop for me? My child is now 18 and has recently completed some 12 week course with the Princes Trust. Is now due to start another 12 week course with the Princes Trust.
I have a private arrangement with the mother but we’re not on talking terms.
Can I stop paying now?
Please can someone help?
CMS is calculated up to the age 20 or when the child leaves non-advanced education, whichever comes first. However, since you are paying by private arrangement, you could consider simply letting your ex know that as your daughter has left education, then you will cease paying maintenance. Your ex would then have to apply to CMS to get maintenance - if the courses don't qualify, then they wouldn't make you pay anything.
