I live in Northern Ireland and my daughter is starting a HND course next week (Sept 2013), she then turns 19 in November, when do I stop paying maintenance?

Hello Gilly01

Thank you for your post. I am William, and I am a Child Maintenance Options consultant. The link that got-the-tshirt mentioned in their reply is specific to England, Scotland and Wales. The list is not exhaustive, and a parent wishing to know if a HND course is classed as advanced education or not (in England, Scotland or Wales) may wish to contact the Child Support (CSA) for clarification. The CSA's contact details, along with further information about how they work out child maintenance, can be found on their website at https://www.gov.uk/child-support-agency.

In your post you mention that you live in Northern Ireland. The rules around child maintenance in Northern Ireland can be different to those in England, Scotland and Wales. For further information, you may wish to contact Child Maintenance Choices who are part of Northern Ireland’s Department for Social Development. They may be able to give you further guidance through their child maintenance support and information service. You can contact them on free phone 0800 028 7439, between 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Alternatively their website is http://www.nidirect.gov.uk/what-can-child-maintenance-choices.

I hope this helps.
