Hi
Can someone please confirm when I can stop paying child support.
My daughter is 18 and has finished 6th form and has now just started full time work. I have been paying my ex maintenance from day 1 and the CSA are aware that we have a mutual agreement. I have seem information around indicating that if the child has been in full time education and have finished but do not have a full time job then you continue to September or until the age of 19 but before I break the new to the ex, I would like to confirm when I should stop making payments
Thanks
Hi There,
If you have a private agreement then the best thing to do is to discuss this with the mother, as a general rule of thumb, you continue paying up to the point child benefit payments stop.

Hello Campbell10
Maintenance should be paid until a child is 16 or until 20 if the child is still in full-time, non-advanced education. Full-time is classed as a minimum of 12 hours per week and non-advanced is anything up to and including A-level standard or equivalent. As a general rule, maintenance payments do run in line with Child Benefit payments and they would most likely end in the first week of September. You can find more information about that here https://www.gov.uk/when-child-maintenance-payments-stop.
From what you have indicated in your post it sounds like you may have a Maintenance Direct arrangement via the Child Support Agency (CSA). If that is the case, you can speak directly to them for clarification. Their contact details can be found here https://www2.dwp.gov.uk/csa/v2/en/contact/index.asp.
More information can also be found on the Child Maintenance Options website http://www.cmoptions.org.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) have a web application, 'Sorting out Separation'. It aims to make it much easier for separating and separated parents (and childless couples) to find the support they need, when and where they need it, and encourages them to collaborate on a range of issues. The link is www.cmoptions.org/en/sortingoutseparation/index.asp.
