My son has turned 19, and his college course in a diploma of photography end at the end of june/beginning of july. He wants to attend university. i pay every month and just want to know when I stop paying my ex? Some sites say 19 others 20 when not in advanced education...
He wont be in education and is 19...so now?
Slightly confused and just want advice.
Hi there 🙂
As his non advanced education ends in june/july you should continue the payment until September. As Uni is classed as advanced education then you are not liable....I'm pretty sure thats the case anyway.
Yep, that's my understanding of it as well.

Many thanks for the reply it was helpful and i hope it may help others who are slightly confused...it seems a simple enough situation but i was confused all the same!
Thanks
Nothing is ever simple when it comes to the CSA, and just when you think you've got the hang of it, they change the rules 😀
Hi discombobulated,
My name is Sarah, a Child Maintenance Options consultant. I can see from your post that your son has turned 19 and you are looking to clarify when your maintenance payments may stop.
As Nannyjane indicated in her response, child maintenance is payable when the receiving parent, your son's other parent, is still in receipt of Child Benefit payments and your son is aged under 20 and in full-time non-advanced education. When your son leaves full-time education in the summer, Child Benefit generally continues until the first week of September.
This is how the Child Support Agency (CSA) determine child maintenance entitlement. If you have a family-based arrangement, which is a non legally binding arrangement between you and your ex-partner, then it is between the two of you to agree together when payments will end.
If you would like a confidential chat regarding child maintenance you can call us free on 0800 988 0988 between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday or 9am and 4pm on Saturday. You can also visit our website http://www.cmoptions.org.
I hope this information gives you clarification.
Sarah
In a similar situation but my child is doing a foundation year to access the uni course... when do I stop paying?
