Hello forum. I’ve been reading up on csa payments finishing but I’m a bit confused. Hopefully I can get some help.
I have two sons. 17 and 16. Both are in college. The 17 year old is 18 next year and will be finishing his college course next year. I don’t think he’ll be attending any more education after that so just wondered when my payments to their mum can stop?
Thanks
hi,
when your son turns 18 and finishes college next year, the payments should stop.
I think your payments should reduce next year, rather than stop, as presumably the 16 year old will still be in education. I'm assuming you are paying via CMS, so they should review your payments from August next year.
I’ve not gone through cms it was always an agreement with my ex . I’ve kept bank statements though to prove I’ve been paying. I’ve checked I’ve been paying the correct amounts too.
Wish I’d just gone though cms now all the hardships I’ve had
CMS can be a pain too. there have been many posts on here, where dads have been arguing with CMS about college and when to stop paying.

OK, in which case, you have the option of checking the CMS calculator to find out what you should be paying when you are only liable for maintenance for your remaining son, and simply reduce your payment to that (assuming you have been paying based on the CMS calculation) when he stops college - there isn't a lot your ex can do as it's all you'd be paying if it was through CMS, and once he's 18, she can't open a case with them.
