Hi everyone I have read a lot on the forums about ages, law and when you stop having to pay the ex
My question is, my son is 16 in July and is planning on joining the Navy immediately and doing engineering, he has done engineering at his college for a year now, would I still be liable to pay the ex when he is in the Navy at 16? I know payments stop at 16 unless in further education but is joining the navy classed as further education, I am happy to help him out but not help my ex keep her payments up on her sports car.

I would say you probably wouldn't have to pay if your son joins the navy. However you wont be able to do anything until he actually joins up properly. its a waiting game at the moment

I've checked the governnment website this morning, and child benefit can be extended by 20 weeks if your child joins the armed forces, aged 16 or 17 - after that it stops, so I would say that maintenance would also cease on that basis.
