HI, What is maintenance meant to cover? I pay the amount the CSA said but still get asked for half towards trips, clubs, school clothes, etc. Is this right?

The amount you pay to the CSA is intended to cover everything - you are under no obligation at all to pay anything in addition. The only potential problem is that your ex may tell your child that they can't go on trips "because daddy won't pay" - it's wrong, but it happens.

Hi Thomas3m

Thank you for your post. I am William the Child Maintenance Options consultant. We are unable to comment on specific Child Support Agency (CSA) cases as we are a separate organisation and do not have access to your case information. However, I can provide some general information.

Child maintenance is a contribution towards the cost of bringing up a child and this includes not only such items as food and clothing but also it is a contribution towards the home that the child lives in and the associated costs of running that home. You can find further information about child maintenance on our website at http://www.cmoptions.org/en/maintenance/index.asp.

As actd as correctly stated, if you have a statutory arrangement in place with the CSA, you are legally obliged to pay what has been calculated. It is the paying parent’s decision if they wish to make any further contributions on top of their payments. For further guidance, you may wish to contact the CSA directly. You can find their contact details on any letters that you may have received, or by visiting Gov.uk at https://www.gov.uk/child-maintenance/contact.

For more information on the ways to set up child maintenance, please visit our website at http://www.cmoptions.org. Alternatively, you can call us free on 0800 988 0988 between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday or 9am and 4pm on a Saturday. We have a sorting out separation web-app that you may find useful. It offers help and support to separating and separated families. The link is: www.dad.info/divorce-and-separation/sorting-out-separation.

Regards

William
