What does child maintenance cover. Should it cover school uniform and the kids clothes or do I have to pay for these separately above what I already pay through CSA
Hi,
I have a really good relationship with my ex husband, he's self employed with unpredictable income, we have a private arrangement that he pays a very small amount of maintenance on a monthly basis but does help out with our children's uniforms and clothes or pays for clubs / classes when he is in a position to.
My partner has a very difficult relationship with his ex, he's on a low income so pays the CSA recommended amount. When he's able to, he buys or contributes towards clothes etc but always gives a bit extra at the start of a school year.
I'm not sure if you're obliged to do it though. You could try posting this on the financial thread, you might get more replies 🙂
Technically, the amount of maintenance paid through the CSA is to cover all expenses (or your share of, anyway) towards bringing up children - you are not obliged to pay or provide anything else at all. Having said that, sometimes the parent with care can be awkward such as sending children with no clothes for holidays etc, in which case it makes it difficult not to provide these.
