[Solved] URGENT! - Check the Debt Letter!

Just a notice to everyone to check their letters from CSA!

I received a letter saying that I owed the CSA £20,000 (£6k to government)!!!

I did have a debt owing from the beginning of the claim which i accept (£3k) HOWEVER I pay via CSA and have done for past 8 yrs without break - When i called up to ask why the debt of £20k came from they couldn't explain it and said that it was due to charges on account and also transfer from old claim to new claim!?

I asked how much i was charged for this and he went off the line for a min and said that i was right and that the debt wasn't £20k and he would get them to reassess and send me a breakdown!

Now i haven't seen the new breakdown and he wouldn't go through the breakdown of the account now - so ill get back on to let you know what it says.

I just wanted you to check because after 14 days it will be passed to the new Child Maintenance Service and THEY will collect it!

CHECK YOUR LETTER SENT AND OPPOSE IT IF ITS WRONG!

Thank you for this - and good advice. I think it's always wise to challenge the CSA if you aren't sure of their figures.

100% right as soon as you get a letter from CSA saying your case is closing and you owe £xxx get in touch with them straight away and query where arears have come from. If you don't contact CSA asap then your arrears will transfer to CMS and disputing the arrears figure becomes alot more difficult.
