I received a letter this morning demanding unpaid maintenance of £12k, having heard nothing whatsoever since 2005. I thought the matter was closed. I am now resident in France. I have no paperwork now. I have no assets of my own. Any advice appreciated. Thanks
thats crazy. all i can suggest is get legal advice. when did you last make payments?
It’s difficult to give you the usual situation as you’re no longer resident in the UK... I would have advised that you ask your MP for help, but that’s not applicable.
You should write back to them and ask for a full account breakdown to show where the arrears arose. You could also contact the bank you were with here and ask them if they can help with statements.
Apart from that, I’m not sure what other steps you could take, apart from seeking some legal advice, as Bill mentioned.
Best of luck
