[Solved] State Pension and arrears

Am I correct in thinking that no-one in government has considered the impact of arrears collection on older parents. The amount I've been asked to pay (albeit grossly over calculated) will take about a third of my state pension until I'm in my seventies! Are they having a laugh?

hi, your referring to child maintenance right? i thought they give you deductions because you have a pension? some people pay more into their pension to reduce maintenance payments.

This will be my State pension. I'm 64 years old. My sons were born when I was 39.

A parent receiving state pension would only pay the flat rate of £7 per week, so you would think that the same kind of rules apply to any arrears.

The CAB might be able to give you some advice about where you stand, or you could go and speak to your MP, particularly if you are wholly reliant on state pension only.

All the best
