Hi There

I am after some advice plz, my son turns 20 in 2 days can i stop my maintenance payment now? He also has a 4 month old son of his own and i am pretty sure he hasn’t been going to collage for the last year as i know he’s been working as a scaffolder, the child maintenance won’t help I’ve even asked for proof he’s attending college only to be told they don’t have to prove anything and i have to pay, does anyone have any advice it would be much appreciated.

hi,

can you contact the college he last attended and ask for written confirmation of his attendance?

are you on good terms with your son? what does your ex say about sons situation?

Hi

I’ve called the collage and they said they won’t tell me anything as I’m not listed as a parent.

I don’t see him that often and he would always side with his mum and me and his mother don’t speak.

So I’m a bit stuffed i keep calling the child maintenance and get no where.

hi,

you can try ask CMS to check your sons tax records, because it will have evidence of his income (as long as hes not earning cash in hand). you can also try reach out to your local councillor/MP and ask for their help.

do you know if child benefit payments have stopped for your son? it may be worth contacting the benefits office and querying that.

Hi Jase,
Can I ask how come you are paying maintenance now he’s 20? Was it part of the divorce?

No it wasn’t part of a divorce she contacted the child maintenance service.

Hi Bill

I think it must be cash as she’s still claiming child benefit, its a nightmare as he’s posted pictures over his instagram and Facebook about having good days at work. He’s even telling my younger son that he’s working all the time when they chat on the phone, i also think he’s living with his girlfriend at her parents place.

Hi Again,
The only thing that I can think of then is that he may be on some sort of training course (NVQ or similar).

Absolute mine field isn’t it!!!

All the best

hi,

i think you should write up a letter and post it to CMS, outlining your reasons for stopping payment. and if they have issues with that they can contact you.

The fact that he's now 20 should be reason enough.
