[Solved] son turns 16

Firstly hi and nice to meet you all,

I have a son who turns 16 today, i have paid CSA since i split with his mother when he was 3 and have always paid, not that this matters with my post but i havent seen him since he was 5.

I have had a horrid experience of the CSA over the past years with unreasonable request always due to their mistakes and errors. the last one saw me paying Β£400 a month in CSA with 2 children living with me when i was on Β£24000 a year. this was because they told me my son was dead or had left the country so stopped taking payments, they they changed their mind and charged me back dated (imagine how i felt with no contact or way of finding out).

Anyway that all in the past (but good to vent) My present issue is the next 3 years (until 19) i have read that the carers allowance of the csa does not get updated and i will have been paying over the odds presently paying Β£48 carers allwance, with this in mind it says that at 16 the carers allowence stops (i know the rest doesn't until education stops).

I am trying to weigh up phoning the csa or not... the big 'bu.t is i started a new job with an increase in salary and i dont want to be reassessed and out of pocket.

thanks woody

Hi there and welcome πŸ™‚

I'm afraid my knowledge of the CSA is very limited but you could try contacting Child Maintenance Options for advice, or indeed the Citizens Advice Bureau.
