[Solved] Should be 18 not 20

Hi all

Does anyone know if they ever plan on lowering the last payment date to 18 years old. It always seems like dad's get a rough deal , I payed way over what I should have in a private arrangement and CSA turned out to be fairer for me . The problem is I think Full time Education until 20 is unfair, especially as they are classed as an Adult at 18 and we all know good dad's give a lot more than the csa payment. Spending money , trip's and cinema, driving long distances to collect them etc. Plus low payed dad's really struggle , if your children are young when you split , it is years of payments. I just think 18 and then finish paying would be fairer. What's your thoughts ? I hope this rule changes to 18 or 19 at the latest to pay csa.

...I'm afraid I haven't heard of any plans to reverse the decision on age. Our children don't stop costing money to look after them when they hit age 18, in fact children are staying at home for longer as the cost of living rises.

I think it would be more helpful to tighten up the rules on parents claiming child benefit when their child has left education, as this is usually how the CSA base their decision on whether maintenance has to be paid or not.

I also think that the resident parents income and that of their new live in partners/husbands income should be taken into account and adjustments made to reflect that.

None of the above is on the cards as far as I know though!

I agree they should tighten up on enforcing child benefit (and then maintenance payments would follow) - I don't know why the government doesn't do this as it would save them money. There should also be a way for the government and NRPs to recover money from the PWC if they have fraudently claimed child benefit and maintenance when not entitled to do so.
