[Solved] Self Employment and CSA question

Hi

I was made redundant a few months ago.
I have a contact order to see my child and also go through the CSA to pay child maintenance.
I have continued to pay CM without my ex knowing I have been made redundant or telling CSA.
I have used savings for this.
I had hoped to find a job before my savings ran out but its not been successful.
I'm hopeful however that in the next 3 months I'll find something!
In the meantime I have confirmed a short term self employed job. A couple of months only but at least it will help.

I have never done this sort of thing before and wondered how it will work. My research tells me I dont have to register until next October with tax being paid the following year.

This helps also as I'm not sure the terms of payment yet or how many days I will get (ad hoc)

In terms of CM - I am about to tell them I have been made unemployed and will give them the date from a few months ago. I will tell my ex also.
In terms of the next few months - what happens if I dont mention my S/E to either? I'm hoping to get a job and then will inform CM when this is all fixed and confirmed.
I will make payments to my ex based on my adjusted income for the next few months myself and declare the earning when i register in Oct 17 / pay tax following year?

Will this be OK or is it completely wrong?

Hi there

I'm sorry I'm completely clueless about how it works as far as self employment is concerned, hopefully someone will be along that can advise you.

Hi There,
.
The right way to do this would be to tell CM that you are now self employed, becuase you won't know what your earnings will be and until you file a tax return CM also can't work it out, CM will then set you up on a basic rate (I can't remember what I was set up on when I went self employed) then after 3 months they will ask you to fill in a form that will outline your income, they will need details of how much money you have earnt based against your expenses, so basically a mini balance sheet from that they will set an amount for you to pay.
.
I would do it this way so that you don't end up getting a large back dated amount to pay.

Would they ever evem know?
Im currently paying the full amount (based on my earning which is more than if recalculated would be due). Ive decided to continue this for at least the next couple of months in the hope i get a perm job.
Worst case. If i didnt.
CM use the last available tax year dont they? If i havent filed anything (i wont need to register until next October) and therefore pay tax until following year. When they review my CM (July) ill either have a perm job or be unemployed and they would use the last avalable tax return wouldnt they?

Im just trying to work out if i can just pay and not inform them until something perm happens.

Hi There,
.
You have an obligation to inform CM of any changes to your income, I wouldn't just keep going as you are, I would call them and keep everything on record, these things have a habbit of bitting back.
