Hi,

I am about to set up as a sole trader. I have not paid any CMS for the last few years and I am not sure how the CMS will work out my payments as there won’t be a tax return for them to reference.

I am going to initially send a letter to let them know I am now working as self employed and ask them how they want me to proceed.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

hi, you should call them and tell them your going self employed. they may ask you to send them a forecast of your earnings for next 12 months, or they say they will wait and see your self assessment tax return after 12 months.

@bill337

Hi,

Many thanks for the reply. If they want to wait for the tax return how will they work out what I am to send my ex wife now. I’ll be earning different amounts on a weekly basis and in the past I paid direct pay monthly. My earnings are going to be all over the place for the next few months while I get going.

I am not looking forward to dealing with the farce that is the CMS.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Am not sure how they will work it out. Do you get universal credit?
