Hi all new to the site and looking for help

I have 2 kid that i have paid CSM for since my ex left me for another man back in 2005. I live alone and got made redundant back in July and struggled to pay the mortgage and bills, taking payment hoildays, loans and what ever else I could to survive. I stopped the CSA as soon as i got made redundant.

Now i have just started a new job on slightly less money than before and got an assessment saying i have to pay more than before due to some arrears as i earnt more last year. I have been out of work for 6 months trying to survive and cant afford to pay the new amount as I need to get back on my feet.

I have tried to come to arrangement with my ex however she has said no you need to pay what they say. Quite simply i would be better off not working, any help or ideas r advice would be welcome please?

Hi,

I know the feeling of a new job, paying CMS and struggling.. However with the CMS being a fixed amount, I haven't found a way around it if the ex doesn't agree to play ball and close the CMS case and agree a payment with you directly.

If you don't pay the amount the CMS say and go further into arrears you risk going onto Collect and Pay which will mean they take the payment direct from salary but also add fees on top.

Only suggestion I can give is to negotiatiate with your other creditors, all financial firms are required to consider financial difficulties especially due to Covid.

hi,

yes it sucks. there are others who are just claiming benefits and practically paying nothing in CMS. I remember on their review letters, that it mentioned that if you will have difficulty paying arrears, to call them. it's worth a try. see what they say. you could ask can they get one of their decision makers to look into this and see if possible to wipe the arrears as your in lot of difficulty due to covid and loss of income.
