Basically Ive just realised that should I ever be promoted, I had to turn down a promotion this weekend on the basis on non permanent contract (ie Im ready for one) as it "definitely temporary".
What I realised is this would lead to an increased child maintenance payment due to gross payment allocation but the "extra" money Id be paying that from would be taxed at 40% (before other deductions) - whats the point in being promoted! Then Id probably get basic plus maintenance after a couple of years within that pay bracket. I'd be poorer in the end.
This system is deeply flawed (in case you didnt know).
Ive wanted to contact the CMS to triple check a few things but have learned they always seem to ring the ex who then attacks me on the basis of "trying ot get out of paying" which I am sincerely not!
One of the things that has baffled me is that when overnights started, calculations using their system and figures should have had me about £20 less a month, I DID ring them about this (as Ive previously stated Im still paying off court debt etc) and was told "its just how it works out over the year", my annual review is due.
I think you can ring CMO for advice without having to divulge who you are. Might be worth considering.....
I would consider the promotion, if it's a viable option, but put the extra into your pension, that way you don't pay extra maintenance and you get the 40% back ax tax relief on the pension.

^^ This...
It's what I have been doing!
