CMS Child maintenance services contacted me and wants to know my earnings note I am self-employed.
They said they need to provide my ex with this information so they can prove their calculations therefore she knows exactly each year how much I earn.
I said surely this is in breach of the new data protection laws that have come out she said not really ...
Can anyone please advise me on this is there some sort of data protection law especially this year that has come out restricting CMS from just giving out my personal information i.e. earnings to my ex partner
I’ve tried looking on the Internet but not much luck Think I’m looking in the wrong place would appreciate everyone’s help thanks .
I did find this link but not sure if it’s relevant

Hi I have just joined today and I am asking exactly the same question of the new data protection laws that are coming out or are already out this year.
I had to let that sink in for a few seconds myself they just hand out personal information to my ex partner this just doesn’t seem right I’m still googling this
I was talking to say to them okay I want to know exactly what they are earning i’m sure the answer will be sorry I can’t give you that information ...
I posted on my thread This link
But I’m not sure if this is the lighting also to Charlton maintenance services :
https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/hm-revenue-customs/about/personal-information-charter
Regarding if the calculation was correct or not So now a Government body has to prove the calculations by surely breaking new laws Data protection act and privacy.
I am going to stop here because now I am venting some of my frustration but if anyone can shed some light on this thread or more thread would be very grateful
Many thanks
I just found another link relating data protection to this But can anyone confirm this will help

I've moved all of your posts together to keep the discussion in one place.
There are exemptions to GDPR for purposes such as general public interest or social care (there are others as well) which I would be certain that CMS could argue. Ultimately, CMS (and child maintenance organisations across Europe) need to gather this information to be able to operate properly, so if they were unable to do this, government would act very quickly to ensure that it was able to do so.
