Payments at 18

My child is going to be 18 soon and will finish her Diploma course at college this month. She’s not yet decided what she wants to do after but I would like some advice on whether I’m required to continue paying if:

* She decides to do another college course in September?

* She decides to go to University in September?

* She decides to take a gap year?

I currently have a private arrangement with her mother (non talking terms) and am not going through CSA/ Child Maintenance Services.

Any assistance would be appreciated as I’m struggling to understand the terminology on the government website and find it confusing.

hi,

yes the rules are confusing. but generally if your child is going to start University (advanced education), then child maintenance stops before they start the first year. if child will stay in college, then maintenance is supposed to continue.

You're normally expected to pay child maintenance until your child is 16, or until they're 20 if they're in school or college full-time studying for: A-levelsHighers, orequivalent.

you could try contacting child benefit office and ask if child is still getting child benefit:
