Hi guys

new here been reading peoples posts(crazy) thought Someone might know this

currently on UC so only pay £7 to the ex(well plus the 20% charge) been offered a part time job won’t be earning much and been told I’ll still be entitled to get UC top up( not much either obv) question is this

1. Do I still only need to pay £7 cms ad I’m still on UC?

2. Will cms know if I’m working if I’m working or will they see I’m still getting UC so won’t know unless I tell them?

3. ex will probably find out am working what happens if she tells cms if I don’t  tell them?

4. If they find out how will they work out an amount? Will I get double shafted £7+???

cheers for any help

Hi

Welcome to the forum.

So CMS is based on your total income. When on only UC you pay a flat rate, once you start working it is based on total income (UC plus Gross Income less pension contributions etc). Therefore it should be straightforward. On UC  there is an earnings allowance and a taper rate so you can work out what your total income will be, If you Google UC taper rate you will be directed to the Gov website that explains.

There is an obligation on you to notify the CMS of a change in circumstances, however, I wouldn't do so until you have been working for a week and are certain you are going to stay in the role to avoid messing about.

Hope this helps, all the best.

Hi,

Once you start working and your UC money starts reducing, it should get flagged up on their system, and they send you a letter. But I would suggest you contact them asap and tell them you started working.

They will make you start paying maintenance, based on your earnings. They will probably put you on a reduced payment rate as your still getting UC. Let them know you still get partial UC.
