Hi and welcome.

The CSA is now the CMS (confusing I know)....

Here's a link to the Child Maintenance Options website that might answer some basic questions for you.

http://www.cmoptions.org/

Feel free to ask any questions and one of us will endeavour to answer.

Aaah thank you so much for your reply....
My question is when do we stop paying Child support for my partners son who is at college....??

He has alredy left school to go to college.
Enrolling in a Construction course, which he did not thrive on but finished.
He then started a Media course.....this year will be his 2nd year i believe?

All communications have broke down, so we rung the college but because his dad is Not named as next of kin on the college paper work, they will not tell us what his plans are??

We want to plan ahead financially...
Where do we go for help?
Csa are happy to keep taking money.....

It is almost impossible to get colleges to communicate sometimes, and it sounds as though you aren't going to get any success. If he is still at college, then you are liable to pay maintenance until he leaves (the payments normally continue for a while after the end of the course, so a course ending in June, you would still have to make payments until September) or reaches age 20 - the basic rule is that if the mother still receives child benefit, then you are liable for maintenance, but unfortunately the child benefit office aren't helpful in giving out information or chasing up on where payments should no longer be paid.

You could try the college again at the start of the next year to see if they will at least let you know if he has enrolled again.

Hello Tuftybulldog

Under child support legislation, regular child maintenance payments must be made until a child is 16 years old, or 20 if they are in full-time, non-advanced education (A-level or equivalent), or for as long as Child Benefit is being paid.

The Child Support Agency (CSA) are just one available option for setting up maintenance payments. If you would like information on the other options, you can contact Child Maintenance Options directly, http://www.cmoptions.org.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) have a web application, ‘Sorting out separation’. It aims to make it much easier for separating and separated parents (and childless couples) to find the support they need, when and where they need it, and encourages them to collaborate on a range of issues. The link is http://www.cmoptions.org/en/sortingoutseparation/index.asp.

Regards

William
