Hi Everyone

New to the site, I have a situation like thousands of other dads, I have just had an attachments of earnings order enforced, the CSA are taking 33.8% of my net income. Trouble is after I pay for my rent only £600 and travel to work costs £300pm this leaves me with £200 for the rest of the month. Apart from jack my job in are there any other options.

Hi,
you have my sympathy mate, I was laid off work and made redundant at the time of my marraige breakup, a proud man I took any available job to stay in work and not claim benefits and be able to pay support for my 2 children. My take home pay was £252 p.w. from which the CSA said I had to pay £43 p.w......my travelling expences were £20 p.w. so this left me £18 p.w. worse off than on benefits (housing, council tax and Jobseekers)....The job I took was only temp.....needless to say I did not take up their offer of another 3 months temp....work is hard enough to find in my neck of the woods....but work with a decent living take home pay is next to impossible it seems....the CSA dont take any interest in any of this and stick with their guidelines.....from a financial point of view all I can say is judge your situation on its merits not on your pride. Good luck

Hi and welcome

Why are they taking a third of your net salary?

Surely they take into consideration your fixed outgoings?

Or am I being naive again?

I'm afraid the CSA don't take into account your outgoings - if you are in arrears, I believe they can take up to 40% of your income to cover arrears and ongoing maintenance. It may be worth having a word with yout MP about this, and speak to the CSA to see if you can spread any arrears over a longer period
