Hi,
I was employed 2 years ago as a stone mason, I got the boot from that job throw no fault of my own,
I rang cms to let them know about this change, they said I would need to sign for a benafit to change any cm being added, I didn’t do this as I don’t want to be a [censored], about 6 months later I got a job as a self employed tree surgeon, not on very good money, I rang them and told them about this, they said as I was self employed I would have to do a tax return for any changes to take affect, in dec I did my tax return and my cm is 16 pounds a week, but because as a stone mason I was on pretty good money I had about 18 months of 70 a week building up, it has let me in debt of 4999, today mastons have come to my door and left a letter saying I need to pay the amount in full, but I logged on to my cms today and the whole amount is still showing on there, I’m paying 30 a week at the moment that’s more than my cm anyway, is there anything I can do to get marstons of my back with out paying the full amount as I can’t afford 4999 :/
many thanks
Sorry to hear that. You could try speaking to your local Citizens Advice and see if they can help. If you really owe the money, then you can hopefully agree a payment plan to clear the backlog
hi,
here is some advice on dealing with bailiffs: https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/debt-and-money/action-your-creditor-can-take/bailiffs/stopping-bailiffs/stopping-bailiffs-at-your-door/#:~:text=Bailiffs%20are%20only%20allowed%20to,door%20or%20over%20the%20phone.
I would recommend you join this CMS support group for paying parents. Make sure to answer all their registration questions when joining: https://www.facebook.com/groups/239699060076601
@champagne but who with cms or is it out of there hands now? Since the covid there contact is shocking they close at 3.30 everyday, I had a letter come from them yesterday dated 18/2 :/
if I can’t work a payment plan with marstons what happens after? Will they take my stuff and car?
I'm sorry but I don't know the answer to that. There may also be a local charity who could help you sort it out but be careful not to use anyone who charges a fee. There is the nationaldebtline.org which might be helpful
Did marstons tell you They were coming?
mg ex says that a liability order was granted against me last week and that marstons will be sending me a letter and then coming to my house.
Do not let them into your house - so do not open the door to them, do not open even a window downstairs, as any of this can be classed as allowing them access - either speak to them through the letterbox, or from a window upstairs. Speak to either citizens advice bureau or stepchange.org (debt management charity) for advice (do not go to any organisation that charges you for managing your debt). The debt needs to be paid, so you have to face that, but you need to arrange a way of doing this that will be accepted by CMS. If you avoid it, then eventually, the court can appoint a bailiff, and I believe that they then have a right to force entry into your home.
