Hi. I am trying to calculate child maintenance to pay to my ex wife for our 2 children. We are doing this privately and not through the CMS but I am using the CMS calculator.
However, the first step is to put in my "Total taxable income". Underneath that it explains that this figure should be my total income, less any pension payment but before Tax and National Insurance deductions.
I am self employed so not sure whether I use my initial gross income from my tax return or because it says to put in my taxable income, is the figure I use after my allowable expenses have been deducted as they are not taxable? I have phoned CMS and they said they cannot give me a definitive answer!! Thank you in advance for any advice.
hi,
CMS like to use the gross income figure, before tax taken off, but after pension contributions. so whatever amount you receive in gross on weekly, or monthly basis, enter that amount. if your earnings change from month to month, try to work out an average amount.
to make it easier you can put in your income figure from your last tax return.
