Hi, new here. Is it possible to pay a lump sum instead of monthly payments for mother of child to close child maintenance case? Is there any way to be legally protected in this so she couldn't just go back to the CMS the next day and put in a new claim?
Hi there
Unfortunately not, after all it is not possible to predict what your earnings are going to be and nothing is ever guaranteed.

No there isn't and in fact you have it exactly why not - she can go back and open a case with CMS and they disregard any payments already made, and even a maintenance order made during the court can be disregarded after 12 months, which is why you should never make an offer of a lump sum settlement in a divorce to avoid future child maintenance.
