Spurgeons and Dad.Info doesn’t investigate reports of abuse or neglect. But below, you can find advice on who to contact if you have concerns about a child or young person.

Reporting a concern

It can be difficult to know what to do if you think a child is at risk. It’s important to remember that if you’ve spotted things that don’t seem right, others will have too. Speaking up can make sure that child gets help as soon as possible.

The sooner you contact your local children’s social care duty team, the quicker they can act. They’re available 24 hours a day, and can make an anonymous report if that feels safer. If a child is in immediate danger, please call the police straight away by dialling 999.

The public interest is, in my view, the fact that if they fail to prosecute, then it's a green light for everyone to commit fraud.

Yep, plus it would take the right person/father/example etc to pursue this including via the press.. I.e I would be no good with my conviction etc but a father who is straight up, has a strong CAO and no other issues could pursue this including via the press if the Police/CPS decide it is not in the public interest to prosecute. Or if they do again it needs a positive character to highlight in the press.

Hey all,

We welcomed our new baby boy to the world on 28th September and he’s great!

Because of Covid etc we have only just gotten around to registering him and doing child benefit claim which I believe is what the CMS need to validate a change in circumstances?

Does anyone know if they will back date this to his birth date? We did put a change forward a week or so in but they requested this info within 14 days but we’ve obviously been unable to provide it.

Just thought id ask if anyone has knowledge
Xx

hi,

It's worth asking them about back-dating. I opened a CMS claim a few months after child was born. The mother took ages in registering for child benefit. was about 3-4 months later that I heard from CMS, and they said I would have to make back-dated payments from the date I opened CMS case.
