Hi guys,
My daughter is 18 in a few months. I have not seen her in over ten years thanks to her mother, but pay maintenance every month. I understand that should she not be in full time education after 18 I am no longer required to pay. But as there is no contact how do I find this info?
Hi there
To be honest it's very difficult to find this out. Generally, once the child has left full time education, it is up to the mother to report the change to the child benefit office and child maintenance, who would then contact you
If your daughter has gone onto college full time (which is more than 12 hours per week) or into an approved apprenticeship, child benefit and maintenance continue, until she leaves or reaches the age of 20.
You can contact the child maintenance service and enquire, they are quite slow to let paying parents know that their payments can stop. We have a new member that has made an overpayment of two months because they were slow to let him know!
Best of luck
Hi There,
.
As Mojo has said it would be difficult to know either way what the situation is with your daughter, if you are paying through CSA or CMS as suggested contact them and ask whether you need to continue paying, if you are paying through a private agreement and not through CSA or CMS then you could stop paying and see what your ex does, if she makes a claim through CMS which is the newer system and where all new claims are now handled.
