Sorry to hear this. Government ran child maintenance departments are worse than loan sharks, springing up arrears out of the blur with little explination. I was told my case was closed last month, all arrears paid. But from reading this you just never inow what they will come up with a few year down the line

Im in the same boat.
I was told my existing arrangement was due to end.
Got a letter yesterday advising i suddenly owed 7k. A seperate letter included- that wasmeant for PWC, advised i owe 2.5k and upto her if they write it off!
I was quite thrown by this. I had arrears in 2002 and the CSA chased me for it and it was repaid alongside all my regular due payments by DEO..which eventually dropped to a lower figure as all arrears cleared.
I Would love to know where the arrears were 5 years ago when they reassessed me. They told me i owed "x" and I paid it. They are a disgrace.
I have two more payments due before my legal liabity ends and i was looking forward to no more dealings but no, they have to find a way to antagonise you some more.

You should ask for a full breakdown of the alleged arrears in writing and take it from there. I'm not great on the financial side of things u fortunately, but it appears that the CMS are jumping on some kind of bandwagon and are trying to claw back "arrears" when having previously stated there were none!

Keep all paperwork and if you get no satisfaction go and see yourMP.

All the best

Definitely get your MP on board to help you deal with them. The Parliamentary Ombudsman deals with these complaints and you have to get referral via an MP or similar to pursue that.

So I phoned them today to get a full breakdown and naturally the case worker was unavailable.
They are sending a full breakdown out but the agent i spoke to could not understand where the figures were coming from.
She could clarify the arrears i had in 2012 and could see every penny was paid and the continuing regular maintenance was paid yet she could not answer where these other arrears have appeared from.
I pressed several times to locate these additional arrears that were not present in 2012 and I have paid everything since that point so they have not been accrued since but I got nowhere other than showing up her lack of accounting skills and basic mathematics.
Eventually she agreed to get the case worker to actually call me alongside having the breakdown sent out. I ensured my contact details were correct. No call though.I didnt really expect it.
I have written a detailed letter outlining my concerns and expectations and requests for documentation pertaining to these arrears.. I am going to do a SAR request and I have contacted my local MP regarding it.

Quick update- Shockingly still not received a call from the case worker. I will, of course, notify a formal complaint about this.
I forwarded all paperwork and and background information to my MP yesterday and he contacted me today to advise he was happy to assist and was forwarding them a letter today so we shall see how this goes.
The PWC has also contacted the CSA and could not get any answers about where these arrears, including those owed to her, originated. She has declared she does not want these arrears collected so either way thats going reduce the figure.
I am not at all stressed by any of this now. The worry and anxiety has turned in to a cold hard resolve to fight against this situation and take every opportunity to complain and inconvienience them!!

Hi this is my first time on the site. I am a NRP that pays child maintenance. It was worked out by the CSA in 2008 then we arranged to do it by private arrangement through the bank and CSA agreement. I have always paid half for school trips and clubs etc. But my case was closed in October 2016 now my ex wife has rung me claiming she has a letter from, CSA stating I am £900 in arrears and she now wants it? I have never missed a payment which i can prove. I have seen the letter sent to her but have not had a letter myself. Can anyone help me? Do i have to pay it or not? Im not in arrears at all and don't even know where this £900 has come from. We do not have an amicable relationship and this is just another way for her to dictate to me. I thought if the case was closed as my paperwork says that was it? Im frankly at breaking point with it all.

Thankyou for listening

Hi there

I would contact the CSA and ask for a breakdown of the alleged arrears in writing, once you have that you can challenge it by making an appeal. You can also ask your MP for help, they are usually pretty good at supporting people and can also refer your case up to the Parliamentary Omsbudsman.

Try not to get too upset about this, I understand the stress something like this can cause. All the best
