Hi all,
I'm 29 years old, recently an apprenticeship came up that I have the opportunity too do but I'm at wits end trying too find the information needed on what will happen with CMS.
I had a bad time last year in October when I lost my higher paying job when my only transport was stolen, which even after phoning and reporting that I was not working and desperately trying too find anything so I can pay my rent etc.. I got told that I would be in arrears, and my new CMS is being taken on my last year's earning which is pretty tough as I'm earning around 6k less than last year.
But back too the apprenticeship if I go through with it, what can I do about CMS? They are pretty evil and relentless. I would never be able too afford what I pay now, with i what would earn on an apprenticeship at my age, but the outcome would be a skilled trade under me with uncapped potential earnings.
Trying too find information on the Internet is quite difficult. Just really need some advice.
Thank you.
Is this an approved government scheme? If so, it might (and I stress might, as I don't know for certain) be classed as full time education, in which case, you would be assessed as nil liability. I would ask CMS what their opinion is on this, first off - if they do confirm that this is the case (and ask them which regulation covers it so you can check), then you just need to know what evidence they need to confirm this.
if your amount of income is reduced by 25% or more, you can ask for them to review their calculations. Here’s the CMS guidelines that explains more about it, I think it’s on page 8
All the best
