[Solved] How much should i be paying?

Hello everyone,

Now before everyone says it should be 12% of your gross weekly earning i am trying to figure out if my situation is any different.

I have 2 children to 2 different relationships, 1 child lives with me full time, the other i am looking to pay maintenance for. To add to this i still pay half of the mortgage on the family home which my ex partner lives with the child i am paying maintenance for.

What i am trying to find out is what factors do CSA consider when working out how much you should be paying/ can afford to pay when working out an arrangement? I am hoping to work out and arrangement without going through CSA but after working out my out goings vs what i am expected to pay the numbers dont stack up and would leave me really struggling financially.

It may also be worth mentioning that i receive no maintenance from the mother of the child who lives with me and i dont qualify for universal credit because i work full time =/.

I have no issues with paying, i just need to figure out where i stand financially.

Thanks for your help

I tried to explain to CSA that the payments will leave me with next to nothing for myself, they did not care in the slightest. They basically said we are basing it on my income, they even include my car allowance which I find unfair, but they said the only way it will reduce is when they start staying over night or if my ex will discuss a reduction, which she obviously would not do.

If you don't mind me asking, why are you still paying a mortgage for a house you do not live in?

hi,

use this .gov CMS calculator to work out how much to pay, its more or less same as what CMS would work out for you:

https://www.gov.uk/calculate-child-maintenance

according to CMS rules, you don't pay anything to ex if the child lives with you full-time. remember to factor in your pension if your paying into one
