Hi,

I am paying under the CMS system for a child I have no contact with (not my doing) she is now 18 and I was wondering if there was a way of finding out through the CMS what her plans are in regards to further education. I was also wondering that if I can't find details this information put how much notice the CMS give of my payments needing to stop?
I have no way of contacting her or her mum so unfortunately that's not an option

Hi I'm sorry I don't know how much notice regarding CMS payments needing to stop.

What I can tell you is that maintenance is payable until the age of 20 if she remains in non advanced full time education. When a child reaches 18, if the resident parent needs to continue claiming Child Benefit, Tax Credits etc, they have to provide the relevant agencies with proof that they are still entitled to do so. These benefits are paid until August of the relevant year, I would assume CMS should be the same.

You could try contacting the CMS and asking them to look into the current situation and confirm that she is still receiving child benefit. Child Benefit and maintenance are linked in as much as this is used by the CMS in determining if maintenance should still be paid.

Best of luck
