Hi There,

The best way is for him to call the CSA, they will need his NI number and the DOB of his daughter along with his address and they will be able to re assess the case from that.

As far as I am aware the CSA work on the principle of if child benefit is still being paid to the mother than the CSA payments continue until it stops being paid.

Get him to call them and they will do the rest.

Hi Scampi

Thank you for your post. I am William the Child Maintenance Options consultant. I will provide some information that may help answer your query.

You may wish to know that child maintenance and contact are not linked in law, so child maintenance may still be payable even if your son does not have any contact with his child. Any contact issues would need to be resolved separately, either privately or via a legal route. If your son has any concerns around contact, he may wish to get in touch with the Centre for Separated Families as they are experts in family separation. You can find more information about this organisation on their website at http://www.separatedfamilies.info.

In addition, under the statutory rules, regular child maintenance payments must be made until a child is 16 years old, or 20 if they are in full-time, non-advanced education (A-level or equivalent), or for as long as Child Benefit is being paid. When a child leaves full-time education in the summer, Child Benefit generally continues until the first week of September. You can find more information on when child maintenance stops on Gov.uk at https://www.gov.uk/when-child-maintenance-payments-stop.

If your son has a case in place with the Child Support Agency (CSA) and he would like to know when his child maintenance will cease, he may wish to contact the CSA directly for further clarification. He can find the relevant contact details on any letters that he may have received, or by visiting Gov.uk at https://www.gov.uk/child-maintenance/contact.

For more information on the ways to set up child maintenance, please visit our website at http://www.cmoptions.org. Alternatively, you can call us free on 0800 988 0988 between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday or 9am and 4pm on a Saturday. We have a sorting out separation web-app that you may find useful. It offers help and support to separating and separated families. The link is: www.dad.info/divorce-and-separation/sorting-out-separation.

Regards

William
