Hi what's best way to check please if case closed and any arrears outstanding? Is it case of call a number, give reference number and they will share over phone or is something more required? Thank you
hi,
were you going through the old CSA system or CMS now? the current CMS tel number is 0800 171 2345, and you would need to give them a reference number of your case. should be on the paperwork they sent you.
@bill337 it was on the old CSA system - is there a different number to contact or via CMS?? thanks
@markdee you would have to ask for a right of access request. please check:
I was hoping there would be an easier way :-/ I've been in US and republic Ireland and my case should have been closed at least 7 years ago when my daughter turned 20. I know a special trace was issued >10 years ago but living out of the country it never reached me and I didn't give it much consideration. I'm thinking about taking a job in UK but would rather not disturb the sleeping giants or if I started work in UK, would HMRC automatically wake them because I'd start paying Tax and NI? Thank you
@markdee the easier way would be to contact your ex about it 😉
they have wiped off billions in uncollected maintenance: https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/2-billion-unpaid-children-support-23415081
but you never know, they could still pursue you if your ex pushes for it.
@bill337 thanks for the links.
I've called DWP (0800 171 2345) and they said can't see anything in either of their systems against my national insurance number. The lady I spoke to didn't think there was anywhere else she could check and if there was anything for me in their systems it might show up as a legacy case. As nothing in her systems she couldn't say if there are any arrears outstanding, wrote-off, etc. Would anyone on here know how to check? Last thing I want is a big surprise backdated claim and my ex-wife won't tell me anything!
