Hi there

If you are paying through the CSA and they have told you that you have to continue to pay, there's not a lot that can be done. If you have a private arrangement to pay the mother, then you can negotiate with her to adjust or stop payments.

Unfortunately, there's no way of finding out if the mother is still claiming child benefit, except from her. You could try calling her bluff by writing to her to suggest that as your son is now working more than 24 hours a week, she is no longer entitled to claim child benefit and you will be contacting the Child Benefit Office concerning this. Your son might not take kindly to this tactic however.

Generally, if your son returns to college for 3 days a week, she probably would be eligible for maintenance, but not completely sure about that.

Best of luck
