so - here we go again. someone else taking over child maintenance. only just started to look into it and the calculator is my first step.
I currently pay payment = £600 month (2 children to pay for, no one living with me)
new calculation- current gross monthly income £6750
divide by 4 gives me £1687 gross weekly income into the child calculator
says I pay £201 per week (so £804 per month!!!!)
sound right to you? - that's near quarter of my bring home salary. but of course I need to bring them up also when they are with me. eg if I give too much money away when they come to me we cant do anything.
of course family arrangement wont work as she will want as much money as possible............
(oh and a fantastic site - I will be a regular lol)
Under CMS, for two children, you'll pay 16% of your gross weekly income on the first £800 and 12% of your gross weekly income on the rest.
Your figures give you a take home pay of around £4560 per month and a gross weekly income of £1557, so you'd pay £219 per week, or £949 per month, unless they are staying with you for more than 52 nights per year., in which case this will reduce.
thank you for the reply - I mean nearly £1000 is a lot (I mean its a lot on top of what her general salary is anyway)
and no working out what the kids spend each month will come close to that. im not trying to get out of paying of course but near a quarter of bring home salary is a lot. any other links or thoughts on this on any other threads as I imagine this topic has been done to the death.
There's a lot on here, but the basic principle is that she can go to the CMS, pay a £20 fee and they will calculate the figure (which will be along the lines of mine above) and you don't have a choice - if you refuse, then they will go through the collect and pay which will add a further 20% onto your figure as a fee for them, and your ex will receive 7% less (in other words, CMS will take about £250 per month in fees from you). You can pay money into a pension, which effectively reduces your income for the calculation, but otherwise, there isn't anny freedom if she won't agree to a family based arrangement, ie an agreement between the two of you.
