Hi
I am finding out information for a friend of min who does not have access to the internet.
They are being hounded by the CSA to pay completely outragous amounts of money to the ex, who has taken everything, house, car, pension etc etc. He has supported his child who is nearly 18 throughout but did this on a private agreement and now ex is saying she has had no financial support whatsoever which is not true.
Is there a phone helpline number they can ring to seek impartial advice and guidance. They live in the Liverpool area.
Thanks in advance.
DH
Hi DH
I am William the Child Maintenance Options consultant. When a parent decides to use the statutory maintenance service, the paying parent's responsibility to pay will start from around the point that they are contacted by the Child Support Agency (CSA). The CSA do not backdate new applications.
Under child support legislation, regular child maintenance payments must be made until a child is 16 years old, or 20 if they are in full-time, non-advanced education (A-level or equivalent), or for as long as Child Benefit is being paid. Your friend will need to speak to the CSA directly and explain his situation, their contact details can be found on their website at https://www.gov.uk/child-support-agency.
To find out more about how Child Maintenance Options can help your friend, he can visit http://cmoptions.org or call us free on 0800 988 0988 between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday or 9am and 4pm on Saturday.
Thanks
William
