Help - Ordered to pay more when unemployed

Hi i hope someone can help.

I recently became unemployed, i had a pretty average wage.

I contacted CMS by written letter with attached my p45, which i uploaded to the portal on my last day of work.

I let them know i dont have any savings and will be relying on support from family to cover the cost of living while i look for other work.

A couple of days later i recieved a notification from them saying they've looked at the information provided and have increased my liability by c. 30% (roughly from 75 per week to 100 per week), my forst payment of which (c. £400) is due only a week after my final payment from the previous payment plan they had me on.

I dont know what to do as obviously i cant afford to pay this amount given i dont have any income or savings but i dont want to miss any payments and accrue further charges from the CMS etc.

I want to provide for my child but currently this amount is well outside of my means.

If anyone has been in a similar situation and has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Baldi

Hi,

CMS work very slowly. Suggest  you phone them on monday so sort this out. If your job ended, they should put you on nil assessment, which means you don't pay anything.
