Hello
I'm new to the forum and am hoping to get some advice on child maintenance and apprenticeships.
Do I still have to pay maintenance if my child is earning a wage on an apprenticeship?
If she were on jobseekers i would be able to stop paying. Her apprenticeship wage is more than jobseekers and also 3 times what I pay her mum for maintenance.
Any help would be appreciated.
Dont quote me but I thought once they were out of full time education it stopped - would suggest you contact the CSA or google it!
Hi there,
Payments stop at 16yrs, or up to 19yrs if in full time education. I'm pretty sure once saleried then maintenance stops! 🙂
Hi, I think its got something to do with what type of apprentiship, If its a private company one then you dont have to pay, but if its a goverment funded one you do , but def ask the csa and get it in writing
Thanks for the input.
I'd heard that if it's government funded then I may still have to pay though the reason why escapes me.
The CSA website is not much help on this so I will have to bite the bullet and talk to them though I really don't like to.
I assume that it will still depend on whether your ex receives child benefit - this is something the CSA should be able to check.
I have now spoken to the CSA on this issue and was told that I don't need to pay. They never asked if the apprenticeship was government funded or if my ex was claiming child benefit. They also advised that should my ex seek to start a new claim they would advise that the claim wouldn't be successful.
If anyone has anything contradictory could they post their thoughts here.
...I would suggest you ask them to put it in writing if possible.

I agree entirely with this - they should hopefully be able to confirm in writing that the case is closed - if you don't receive the letter, then ring up every couple of weeks to ask where it is.
