Hi

I'm afraid there isn't any way around the payments you are making - the CMS have a set calculation, and there is no leeway in this. It's based on your earnings before tax, and the 20% is presumably because you are in arrears and so are now on the collect and pay system (not sure about the 20% collections fee though - you could query this, unless it's not a fee, but actually the arrears you are paying off)

Hi There,
.
As actd has said you are really stuck, CMS will collect the money and they won't allow any more debt to mount up, It isn't a great situation as they will take the back payments from your wage which will as you say leave you without enough to live on.
.
Have you tried to appeal the decision, not to over turn the amount you owe or have to pay, but to maybe get the amount you pay back off the debt reduced but extended over a longer term to give you a little more each month to live on.
.
