[Solved] Getting Overpayment refunded from CSA - Help!

I have just received a letter from the delightful souls at the CSA advising me that my case is now closed as of 31/08/2012 and no further payments are due as my son who lives with my ex wife is no longer eligible for child support - He is 18 and has left education.

Whilst this in itself is good news, given I pay £668 a month, by my calculations I have overpaid by some £3500 since September 2012. I have tried speaking to the CSA who simply advise that this is being reviewed and it could take a couple of months due to a backlog! As i pointed out to them they were quick enough to slap an attachments to earnings order on me when I was struggling financially yet now they appear to owe me a considerable sum, it appears to ok to make me wait months.

Any help/advice would be gratefully received.

I just want my money back (and to know my greedy ex wife has had to repay it as well! Ok yes I am a little bitter!)

Get your MP on to them! write to your MP and explain the situation....the CSA seem to respond better to peopel with a little more power than us mere mortals! worked for my mate!

I am in the same situation I got made redundant in September and informed the CSA. My son will be 19 in April and when reassessed a couple of years back they said I have to pay up to his 19th birthday if he went onto further education. When I phoned the lady said cancel your standing order as he had not gone onto further education. I was very happy that my payments would end as this was £400 a month. Couple of days went by and I phoned to get my case closed long story short this took a large amount of calls they are useless.

I then received a letter saying my payments should have stopped in April 2011 this means I had over payed by £7000 not happy. Again they said they are looking at it and then someone else has to look at it usual CSA. I have got my local MP involved and he has written to them to get this resolved I am seriously thinking of instructing a solicitor as they think they are a law above everyone else.

I payed £750 in arrears 2 years ago and it took me months of phone calls to get a receipt to say it was payment for my arrears.

I hope this gets resolved but I know what they are like and they will say you owed this money. I will keep fighting they are not getting away with this I'm sick of them.

That's sounds like a great idea - will your MP keep you informed about what is going on.

UPDATE. I have now heard from some high up section of the CSA who phoned me Friday to tell me my case is closed and I will be receiving a refund. She kept repeating that I got my local MP involved so I said to her a solicitor has been instructed as well to recoup the interest and unnecessary stress I have been put through. I then asked the amount of the refund and she confirmed it £7331.

Until its in my bank I will try not to get to excited, without the help of the MP it probably wouldn't have been dealt with as quick as this.
