[Solved] Getting married

I'm not earning so I have a zero assessment for my children who are living with their mother.
I will be getting married shortly - could the income of my future wife be taken into account by the CMS?
Note - I am living off my savings and am paying my kids directly rather than via my ex wife.

Second question, if I have a rental property, can the rent be taken into account as income?
Does it matter who's name the rental is in - mine, new wife or joint?

Thanks

Hi There,

As far as I am aware if you have an income through letting a property then this can be taken into account, though I'm not 100% certain on that.

But your future wife's income won't be taken into account, only your income is factored when deciding what you should pay.

Yes, your rental income would count. If you transferred to property to your new wife, it might be classed as diversion of income, certainly if your ex went to a tribunal, I would imagine they would see it that way. If you don't need the income, you could put it all into a pension scheme, but I'd get professional financial advice.
