Campaigners and angry parents have said the government's Child Maintenance Service (CMS) is an "absolute shambles" and have demanded a complete overhaul of the system, which they say is failing millions of children.
The comments have come following the tragic death of Yorkshire dad-of-one Jonny O'Neill who took his own life in November last year. The 41-year-old engineer from Lindley, Huddersfield was struggling to cope after reportedly being told to pay £689 a month in CMS and just hours before his death he recorded a message to say: "The CMS is about to take yet another life".
Jonny's death has prompted angry reactions from YorkshireLive readers . Louise Carroll said "it’s a disgrace", while Jenny Clarke added: "CMS is not fit for purpose".
