Hi

I was wondering what CSA payments are for (sounds stupid now i have written it). As in what is the money to go towards etc. I ask this as i have had very mixed answers from different sources. I have seen the legislation on the .GOV site but get really confused with it and eventually really wound up.

In other words is there anyone who speaks layman that can explain it to me please?

Thanks in advance.

Hi There,
.
Your CSA payments are to go towards your childs living costs, though they can be spent on anything even if it doesn't relate to the child they are paid for, once the money has been paid then where it goes and how it's spent is up too your ex, the payment is legally all you have to pay, and unless you can afford too and or want too, you don't legally have to pay your ex any thing extra, so it would cover anything that your child does, ie after school clubs, child care, clothes food, roof over thier head school trips and pretty much anything else you could think of.
.
If you are in a possition to pay additional to help your ex out and so that your child doesn't miss out on things it's always good, but you don't have too.

Hello Chewysharp

Child maintenance is a contribution towards the cost of bringing up a child and this includes not only such items as food and clothing but also it is a contribution towards the home that the child lives in and the associated costs of running that home.

For more information on all the different ways to set up child maintenance and for a more personalised service, you can visit the Child Maintenance Options website at http://www.cmoptions.org.

The DWP have a sorting out separation web-app that you may find useful. It offers help and support to separating and separated families. The link is: www.dad.info/divorce-and-separation/sorting-out-separation.

Regards

William
