[Solved] DNA test recommendations - Different Countries

Hi there all. I'm looking to have a DNA test done to prove parentage (just to allay any doubts in the future). My problem is that a google search just brings up LOADS of "reseller" websites that really don't inspire much confidence. My other problem is that I am based in Thailand for the foreseeable future and the Mum and Boy are in the UK.

I am happy to pay the legal DNA fee (close to £400) to get this done properly and have a 3 person test but wondered if anybody had any recommendations in the mine-field of DNA testing.

Many thanks in advance

What fears are you seeking to allay? I can't see any reason to pay for a test if you don't need to, and the self-test kits wouldn't be accepted as evidence.

Not "fears" but "doubts". I knew the mother for about 5-6 weeks then she disappeared. The timings are right and I can see similarities but I don't want to head down this path (emotional, financial, parental) with any doubts as to my part in his parentage. My reason for wanting the "full" test (i.e. legal) is to ensure I can pursue "parental responsibility" if I want to in the future. I understand that Cellmark are the company that the CSA (or whatever they've become) uses so I would imagine that doing it through them would be worth the premium. They have told me that they can arrange with my chosen clinic in Bangkok.

Has the mother asked you for maintenance? If not, then she wouldn't have to agree to a DNA test unless ordered by a court, and I would think you'd be unlikely to successfully argue that without further evidence that you are the father - it does depend on the mothers attitude and willingness to help.
