[Solved] Disclosure of income and Data Protection

Hi,

Does anyone know the real in's and out's of GDPR - the upgraded Data Protection Act?

The reason I ask is that I have just found out that the CMS disclose my weekly earnings to my ex in writing to show how they came to the weekly figure of payments that I should be making! Let that sink in for a minute...they write to my ex and show in writing how much I earn per week!

Now I'm pretty sure that is illegal!? I spoke to CMS directly to ask them about this and they said that it was within the acceptance of GDPR. I thought the whole point of this update to Data Protection was to protect personal data from anyone and everyone. If your data is to be used, you now have to give consent to it - or am I getting this wrong??

This isn't new, and it would be covered by the existing data protection act anyway prior to 25th May. To be honest, even if they didn't disclose your income, it would be very simple to work it out from the monthly payments and number of children as it's a straight percentage of your gross income.

Hi There,

This is something I wondered about even before they up dated the law, surely with data protection, that is information that shouldn't be shared.

That said, with the way that CMS work, anyone could have a pretty good guess at your income from the amount that they were awarded.

I don't know the details, but there has to be exemptions in cases where it's necessary. If the Parent with care didn't know the income figure, they wouldn't be able to know if the calculation was correct.
