[Solved] Declaring Maintainence

I'm a bit confused, so was wondering if someone could clear something up for me, sorry if I ramble a bit.

Me and my ex have not got on but did eventually reach a mutual agreement about payments. So I pay an amount into her bank account every month as per worked out on the calculator, it's a mutual agreement, nothing written down or anything. Tonight she tells me that she only gets about 25% of that amount, i asked why and she said she has to declare it as income and she gets deductions. She got a bit hostile and wouldn't go into detail.

She doesn't work and gets benefits but I thought that the law changed and anything I give her would entirely go to her? Who would take 75% of my payments? Is it because she's declared it as income instead of maintenance? She's also a bit of a liar but she seemed quite genuine about the deduction.

Has she declared the money incorrectly or does someone indeed take 75% off my standing order to her?

Thanks, from a very confused father!!!!

I think she's got it wrong or not being entirely honest - worth checking with the benefits office though for a definitive answer.

She's not self employed and I wouldn't be able to call the benefits office as they wouldn't give me details on another person. I just thought it was odd that a mutual agreement would have money taken away from it? I'm just annoyed she won't talk about it as she has said in the past that she is struggling with money and I think she's made a mistake but her pig headedness is depriving our son of the money he deserves!

no maintenence does not have any affect on what you recieve in working or child tax credits if you are working .it only gets counted if you are recieving benifits such as job seekers or housing benifit etc
it does get counted for any council tax benifits though
