Dad faces jail for child maintenance fraud

A dad-of-three who forged his payslips to avoid paying for his three children has been charged for child maintenance fraud.

Former accountant Cameron Poole admitted tampering with his payslips to avoid paying the legal amount for his kids aged 11, 13 and 14, after his marriage broke down a decade ago.

Poole - who pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud by misrepresentation over five years - told the court he falsified documents to dodge paying the full amount owed.

Fraudulent payslips showed he received an income of £41,000 a year, a quarter of his actual £163,000 salary.

The shamed dad - who will be sentenced on January 8 - admitted he used his extensive IT skills to forge his wages.

It comes seven years after the Australian national was jailed for stealing £650,000 from the London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPC).

Poole had been hired as a safe pair of hands to look after the finances of the LPC in 2013.

However, over three years, he syphoned £648,000 out of the business and blew it on his Herne Hill property, exotic holidays and artworks worth tens of thousands of pounds.

After he left, bosses discovered the fraud and in October 2010 he was jailed for four years.

The UK Government's attempts to deport him failed on grounds that moving him to Australia would infringe his right to a family life.

In the judgment, the court said his deportation would "effectively end" Poole’s relationship with his children.

Baroness Stedman Scott - who oversees the child maintenance system - said: "Cameron Poole has been forced to admit another elaborate fraud, this time to deny his own children the financial support they need.

"Our dedicated Child Maintenance investigators have tirelessly unravelled his web of lies and now he will have to face up to the consequences of his actions in court.

"The CMS will continue to clamp down on people who think they can abuse the system and evade their responsibilities to their children."
