Hi, my stepsons mum has started going on to my partner about the csa payments. She lives a while away and my mother in law collects my stepson and sometimes he stays with her for a night if he falls asleep in the car on the way back. Stepsons mum is saying this doesn't count as us having him and we should phone the csa every time this happens and every time we have him more than the usual amount other wise we will get fined by the csa for not letting them know of changes. Does anyone know if this is the correct procedure?
Hello Alh19
When someone has a case with the Child Support Agency (CSA) they do have a responsibility to inform them of any changes which could affect the amount that is paid. However, your stepson staying with your mother in law should not affect this, as your stepson is still in care arranged by your partner.
You can clarify this by speaking directly to the CSA or visiting the Gov. website for more information, http://www.gov.uk.
Regards
William
