Hello

It's just your wage 20% for your 2 sons then minus a % (sorry i forget how much) for your partners child (if you live with the partner and child) minus any pensions

Here's a calculator

I think it's 15% off for your child (percentages taken off are the same as those used for calculating the maintenance in the first place) - but that 15% of the 20%, ie it would reduce the 20% to 17% overall.

Hi stevenmark24

Thank you for your post, I am William the Child Maintenance Options consultant. Child maintenance is calculated based on the paying parents gross weekly income, which is income before Income Tax and National Insurance are taken off, but after occupational or personal pension scheme contributions are taken away. In most cases this gross income figure comes from information given to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) by the paying parent, their employer or a third-party such as an accountant.

The Child Maintenance Service works out child maintenance as a percentage of the paying parent's gross income - this is to ensure that payments are affordable. They will take into account any other children that live in your household and also any other children that you are required to pay maintenance for.

If you would like an indication of how much maintenance may be payable, based on how the Child Maintenance Service calculates maintenance. There is a calculator available on our website at http://www.cmoptions.org/en/calculator/.

We have a sorting out separation web-app that you may find useful. It offers help and support to separating and separated families. The link is: www.dad.info/divorce-and-separation/sorting-out-separation.

To find out more about all the options available for maintenance and how Child Maintenance Options can help you visit www.cmoptions.org or call us free on 0800 988 0988 between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday or 9am and 4pm on Saturday.

Thanks
William
